On the evening of Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the Indian American community in New England will come together for a powerful purpose: to reimagine education for millions of children across India. The first-ever Leadership Reception & Gala by Vidya Bharati USA, hosted at the Boston Marriott in Burlington, marks not just a gathering—but a movement.
Organized by the Indus Education Empowerment Foundation, in partnership with Aashraya, Edufront, and The Jha Group, this gala is more than an elegant evening. It’s a rallying call for those who believe in the transformative power of education. The night will feature visionary speakers, cultural performances, and dynamic conversations—all aimed at building momentum for a cause that touches the heart of India’s future.
What is Vidya Bharati?
Founded in 1952, Vidya Bharati is India’s largest non-governmental education network, with a presence in 88% of India's districts. It operates more than 12,000 formal schools and over 9,000 informal learning centers, reaching over 3.3 million students from underserved urban, rural, and tribal communities.
But Vidya Bharati goes beyond classrooms. Its curriculum is rooted in holistic, value-based education, emphasizing not just academic excellence, but character-building, cultural values, and leadership. The organization’s model is deeply community-driven: local land donations, grassroots support, and affordable tuition ensure the schools are both accessible and sustainable.
The result? Generations of doctors, engineers, public servants, and social entrepreneurs who are not just skilled—but grounded in service and tradition.
The Boston Gala: Why You Should Attend
This year’s theme, “One Tablet, Infinite Futures,” underscores the integration of digital innovation into traditional schooling. The gala will spotlight efforts led by Satish Jha, a Wellesley-based philanthropist and former president of One Laptop Per Child. Jha’s initiative introduces AI-powered tablets, robotics labs, STEM modules, and personalized learning systems into Vidya Bharati classrooms—bringing 21st-century learning to India’s remotest corners.
Remarkably, the transformation costs just $500 per student. Jha has already funded a dozen such schools himself, with over 22 more in development—proof of how impactful diaspora contributions can be.
Attendees will hear directly from Vidya Bharati leaders, as well as inspiring young entrepreneurs like Sarada Koppana and Reya Kannan—high school innovators from the TiE Young Entrepreneurs (TYE) Boston program, who are helping redefine youth-led change across continents.
